#
At KUMMUNI, we strive to provide a comfortable and harmonious living environment for all our tenants. For those who smoke, some of our CoLiving spaces offer designated smoking lounges. These lounges are designed to accommodate smokers while minimizing the impact on non-smokers and maintaining the cleanliness of the shared living environment. It’s important to use these lounges responsibly to ensure they remain pleasant and functional for everyone.
Ventilating the Smoking Lounge #
Proper ventilation is crucial when using the smoking lounge to prevent smoke from lingering and affecting other areas of the building. Here’s how to ventilate the space effectively:
- Open the Windows: All KUMMUNI smoking lounges are equipped with windows. Always keep the windows open while you smoke. This allows fresh air to circulate, helping to remove smoke from the room quickly and preventing it from spreading to adjacent areas.
- Use the Ventilation System: If the lounge has an additional ventilation system, ensure it is turned on while you smoke. This system helps to further reduce smoke levels and keep the air clean.
- Keep the Door Closed: Always keep the door to the smoking lounge closed while smoking. This is particularly important during quiet hours or when others are sleeping to prevent the smell from drifting into common areas or other tenants’ living spaces.
Protecting the Furniture #
The furniture in the smoking lounge is provided for your comfort, but it’s essential to take care of it to avoid damage:
- Always Use Ashtrays: Be sure to use ashtrays for cigarette ashes and butts. Never extinguish cigarettes on furniture or other surfaces, as this can cause burns and permanent damage.
- Avoid Placing Hot Items Directly on Surfaces: Do not place lit cigarettes, lighters, or other hot items directly on tables or chairs. Use coasters, ashtrays, or other protective items to prevent heat damage.
- Clean Up Spills Immediately: If you spill any liquids, clean them up right away to prevent stains or damage to the furniture. This includes drinks as well as any accidental ash or cigarette butt spills.
Emptying the Ashtray Regularly #
A clean ashtray is essential for maintaining a pleasant atmosphere in the smoking lounge:
- Empty the Ashtray Frequently: Regularly empty the ashtray to prevent unpleasant odors and keep the lounge tidy. If you’re the last person to use the lounge, make sure the ashtray is emptied before you leave.
- Dispose of Ashes and Filters Properly: When emptying the ashtray, place the ashes and cigarette butts in a small, separate bag to contain any odors. Seal the bag before disposing of it in the trash to prevent the smell from spreading.
Cleaning Responsibilities #
Maintaining the cleanliness of the smoking lounge is the responsibility of those who use it:
- Smokers Clean Up: Only those who use the smoking lounge are responsible for cleaning it. Non-smokers are not expected to participate in cleaning or maintaining the lounge. Smokers should ensure that the area is left clean and orderly after each use, including wiping down surfaces and emptying ashtrays.
- Regular Maintenance: Regularly check the lounge for cleanliness, and take the initiative to clean up if you notice that others have left it untidy. This helps maintain a pleasant environment for all users.
Being Considerate During Quiet Hours #
Using the smoking lounge during quiet hours requires extra care:
- Minimize Noise: If you’re using the lounge late at night or early in the morning, be mindful of noise. Avoid loud conversations or activities that could disturb others.
- Ensure Proper Ventilation: During quiet hours, it’s even more important to ventilate the room properly. Make sure the windows are open, and the ventilation system is on to prevent the smell from spreading to other parts of the building.
- Limit Lounge Use: If possible, try to minimize the use of the smoking lounge during hours when others are likely to be sleeping. This consideration helps maintain a peaceful environment for everyone.
Consequences for Not Following the Rules #
At KUMMUNI, we take the comfort and well-being of all tenants seriously. If we receive any complaints that the rules are not being respected during quiet hours or when others are sleeping, and a fair solution cannot be reached, we may restrict access to the smoking lounge for those responsible. Violating the rules can lead to more severe actions, including lease restrictions or contract termination.
