In a CoLiving space, the Radio Tax (Rundfunkbeitrag) must be paid by one tenant, with the cost typically being shared among all flatmates. Since only one person is responsible for making the payment, it’s important to agree on how the cost will be split. The myKUMMUNI app offers a simple solution to manage this process. Once you’ve decided who will pay the tax, that person can use the app to officially inform their flatmates. Each flatmate can then contribute their share of the cost directly to the person responsible.
Steps to Split the Radio Tax: #
- Agree on the Payer:
Discuss among your flatmates who will be responsible for paying the Radio Tax. - Notify Flatmates Using the myKUMMUNI App:
To officially notify your flatmates, follow these steps:- Open the myKUMMUNI App:
Start by logging in to your account on the app. - Go to Your Account (Profile):
Navigate to your profile within the app. - Select Radio Tax:
Choose the “Radio Tax” option to begin the process. - Request Flatmates’ Email Addresses:
You’ll need to ask your flatmates for their email addresses, as KUMMUNI cannot share this information due to privacy policies. - Provide Relevant Information:
Input details such as the date you began paying the ARD Radio bill and how the cost should be split among your flatmates. - Notify New Flatmates:
If a new tenant moves in, you can easily notify them through the app about the existing Radio Tax arrangement.
- Open the myKUMMUNI App:
- Contribute Your Share:
Each flatmate should transfer their portion of the tax to the payer.
Tips for Splitting the Cost: #
- Fair Distribution:
Make sure the cost is split fairly. For example, if a tenant arrives in the middle of the month, they should only be charged for the period from their arrival, not the entire month.
Facts to Consider: #
- KUMMUNI’s Role:
By using the myKUMMUNI app to manage the Radio Tax, you allow KUMMUNI to act as a witness, confirming that you have paid the tax and informed your flatmates. - What If a Flatmate Doesn’t Pay?
KUMMUNI cannot directly intervene if a flatmate fails to pay their share, but we can take indirect legal action as we are aware of the situation.
Community Support Notice: #
KUMMUNI offers community support for handling shared responsibilities like the Radio Tax. However, we encourage tenants to communicate directly and find solutions together. Creating a ticket should be a last resort, as we cannot guarantee desired outcomes through our community management solutions. We do not tolerate unfairness in our CoLiving spaces.
