Dealing with Mold: Tenant and KUMMUNI Responsibilities
Mold can be a significant concern in any rental property, and understanding who is responsible for addressing it is essential for a smooth resolution. At KUMMUNI, we are committed to maintaining healthy living spaces while ensuring fair practices for tenants.
When KUMMUNI is Responsible for Mold #
If mold develops due to factors beyond the tenant’s control, such as renovations, structural issues, or building-related problems, it is KUMMUNI’s responsibility to address it. However, tenants must inform us as soon as they notice the issue.
- Prompt Reporting Required:
- Tenants should report mold immediately after noticing it to prevent further growth.
- Failure to report mold promptly may result in shared responsibility for the costs if the mold worsens over time.
- Our Commitment:
- KUMMUNI will investigate the issue and handle the majority of the costs associated with cleaning and repairs when the mold is caused by factors unrelated to tenant behavior.
When Tenants Are Responsible for Mold #
If mold results from tenant actions, such as:
- Overheating the property.
- Failing to ventilate rooms adequately.
- Allowing excessive moisture to build up (e.g., drying clothes indoors without ventilation).
In these cases, it is the tenant’s responsibility to clean the mold immediately and take measures to prevent its recurrence.
- Steps Tenants Should Take:
- Clean the mold promptly using appropriate cleaning products.
- Improve ventilation in affected areas by opening windows or using exhaust fans.
- Avoid habits that contribute to moisture buildup.
How to Report Mold Issues to KUMMUNI #
If you notice mold and need assistance, you can open a ticket through the myKUMMUNI app. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Facility Department section.
- Choose Hygiene Problem and select Mold from the options.
- Attach a photo of the affected area to help our team better understand the situation.
- Submit the ticket, and our team will review the issue and respond as soon as possible.
Reporting mold promptly and providing accurate information is important. This approach ensures:
- Faster resolution of the issue.
- Lower costs for everyone involved.
For example, if you notice a small patch of mold and report it immediately, KUMMUNI can address the problem before it escalates. If left unchecked and the mold spreads, both the tenant and KUMMUNI may face higher costs and more extensive repairs.
